David Gordon Roades

     David Gordon Roades, 82 of Edna, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was born in Louise, Texas on September 3, 1941, to the late Roy Hugh and Mary Emma Swan Roades.

     Gordon was married to Anna Lorene Mikus from Inez, Texas on November 10, 1962.

     Gordon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was a truck driver, rice farmer, and cattle rancher all his life and loved to tell stories with a laugh that was infectious. He had his hands full with the “girls and the boy” as farm hands but always managed to keep his cool and remain patient. He was also a member and past president of the Jackson County Youth Rodeo Association and a board of director of the Jackson County County Wide Drainage District.

     Gordon is survived by his wife, Anna Roades; and daughters, Yvonne Janssen (Brent Walker) of Edna, TX, Lana (William “Scooter”) Webel of Victoria, TX, La Wanda (Jim) McCormick of Victoria, TX, Vee (Nick) Strauss of La Ward, TX, and Dee (James) Darilek of Ganado, TX; and son, Oren (Stacie) Roades of Aubrey, TX. He is also survived by a brother, R.H. (Peggy) Roades of Ganado, and sister-in-law, Ruth (Pat) Miori of Inez. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren, Erin (Derek) Zarosky, Haley (Justin) Willemin, Hayden (Morgan) Webel, Grady (Sarah) Atkinson, Lauren (Keith) Kieschnick, Katlyn (Eric) Berrettini, Nicholas (Kyla) Strauss, Staci (Karsen) Klimitchek, Carson (Kristin Dierlam) Darilek, Shane Darilek, Oliver Roades, Charlie Roades, Madyson Hurley (Levi Moore), Will Croom, and Jack Croom. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.

     Gordon is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Mattocks; and great-grandson, Harrison Webel. 

     Pallbearers will be Grady Atkinson, Hayden Webel, Carson Darilek, Nicholas Strauss, Shane Darilek, and Derek Zarosky.

     Honorary Pallbearers are Oliver and Charlie Roades.

     Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, Texas. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10 a.m., also in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Richard Roades officiated. Interment will follow in Hirschhauser Cemetery in Inez, Texas.

     Memorial donations may be made in Gordon’s name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 185 Kolle St., Inez, Texas 77968
