Helen Joyce McGill Spurgers passed peacefully in the comfort of her home, January 14, 2025 in Bandera Texas. She was born in San Angelo Texas to the parents of Thomas Daniel McGill and Gladys Pearl Yearwood McGill, on June 3 1929. She married Lloyd Earl Spurgers on May 28, 1949 in San Angelo Texas.
She attended schools in Kilgore, Edna and Eldorado, graduating from Eldorado High School in 1946. At Eldorado High School she was selected Senior Class favorite, and twirler for the Marching Talon Band.
During her time at Edna High School, she was selected as a twirler for the Edna High School Drum & Bugle Corps.
Following graduation, she began her banking career at The First National Bank in Eldorado. Shortly thereafter, in Eldorado, she met the love of her life Lloyd Spurgers. They were married in San Angelo TX, and soon moved to Edna Texas. She began working at Jackson County State Bank in Edna as a bank teller. She retired following a 40-year career in the banking industry.
In her retirement, she enjoyed spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, great-grands and great-great grands. They all cherished her dearly and delighted in visiting with her.
She also found immense joy in watching her birds, often spending hours mesmerized by their beauty. Her favorite bird was the hummingbird, they gave her great joy.
With a remarkable green thumb, she loved tending to her many potplants and succulents. And was always eager to share cuttings with family and friends.
She was truly passionate about spending hours with her embroidery and counted crossstich, inspiring countless family and friends with her thoughtful gifts of stich work. Her remarkable talent also earned her Blue Ribbons and Honorable Mentions at the Jackson County Fair in Edna.
She also enjoyed her many years as the Avon Lady in Edna, inspiring others with her timeless work ethic and commitment to ensuring her costumers received their orders, earning her numerous rewards from Avon.
She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Edna, where she cherished her volunteer time helping in the church office. She was also a devoted member of North Main Baptist Church in Liberty Texas, and First Baptist Church in Bandera Texas.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Lloyd Spurgers, father, Tom McGill, mother, Gladys Yearwood McGill, brother Wayne McGill, and beloved granddaughter Amie Leigh Martinez.
She is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Spurgers and former wife Carol Mathis. Daughters: Deborah (Debbie) Kay Fallin-Robb, Ruth Eileen Vasquez, and Jean Renée Norris and husband Donald Norris.
Her legacy also lives on through her many grandchildren, great-grands, and great-great-grands, who lovingly called her Grandmaw
and GG.
A Mermoral will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 11am to 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Edna Texas. Ike Peterson will officiate the service.
Her remains will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens in Edna, along side her husband and mother, where love and memories will forever flourish.
