Funeral services was held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Kathryn Emilie Krenek Dubicki, age 82, who passed away on February 13, 2025, at the Calcutta House of Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette.

Funeral services was held on Saturday

The family requested visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s SOUTHSIDE Location on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen officiated at the services. Lana Rhinehart provided musical selections. Interment and graveside services were held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria, TX, 8819 U.S. Highway 87 N., Victoria, TX 77904.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph Frank Dubicki; two daughters, Julia Gachassin and her husband, Greg of Lafayette, LA, and Stephanie Hansz and her husband, Aaron of Huntsville, TX; four grandchildren, Lauren Gachassin, Anna Gachassin, Benjamin Hansz, and Elizabeth Hansz;

September 14, 1942 — February 13, 2025

three step-grandchildren, Audrey Hansz Rey, Kyle Hansz, and Gretchen Hansz; one sister-in-law, Lucja Dubicki Nowik; and nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Walter Krenek, Sr., and Rubye Ann Hanus Krenek; her brother, Walter Krenek, Jr.; sister-in-law Gwynne Corbell Krenek and a brother-in-law, Kostek Nowik.

Kathryn, a native of Vanderbilt, Texas, and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, since 2004, lived a life marked by intelligence, dedication, and a love for learning.

She spent time in Waco, Texas, where she met her husband, Joe, and built a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work.

A graduate of Industrial High School, Kathryn earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Baylor University and subsequently her Texas Teachers Certificate.

When asked recently what were her fondest memories she replied “Teaching, I loved my students and I miss teaching.”

Kathryn’s strong work ethic was evident in her years spent working the family cotton gin in Vanderbilt, Texas, first alongside her father and later with her husband and subsequently transitioning the gin into a farmers’ coop, ensuring its continued service to the agricultural community. She was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, Louisiana.
