Alvin Blanar
Alvin Emil Blanar, 83 of Edna, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 in Edna after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Edna. Funeral Services followed at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Edna with the Rev. Don Hessong of Union Valley Baptist Church and the Rev. Robert Krause of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial immediately followed at Memory Gardens of Edna. Alvin was born in Lolita to Frank and Sophie Blanar on Nov. 9, 1935. He was a graduate of Industrial High School. He served his country, by serving in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Jo Ann Kirby on Nov. 3, 1962 in Edna. He retired from Alcoa after 35 years of service and was a member of their 25 year club. He was involved in coaching Little League baseball for over 20 years. He touched the lives of numerous children and families by dressing up as Santa Claus for over 20 years. He is a charter member of the Windmill Saloon Domino Crew for 19 years. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and working on small engines. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, and brother; Richard Blanar. Alvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo Ann Blanar; sons Brent (Shari) Blanar of Pearland and Bryan (Stephanie) Blanar of Boling; brother James (Brenda) Blanar of Edna and granddaughters Shelby and Katie Blanar of Pearland, and his dog Duke. Pallbearers were Chris Hyek, Charles Jones, Glen Martin, Tommy Pesek, Travis Pruitt and Tab Simons. Honorary pallbearers were Clinton Brooks, Red Kirby, Ed Sralla and the members of the Windmill Saloon Domino Crew. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave. Victoria, TX 77901.
