Basilio "B.J." R. Jimenez
Basilio R. Jimenez, Major -U.S. Army Retired, of Edna, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the age of 80. He was born in Mission, Texas on April 7, 1937, to the late Pedro Jimenez and Guadalupe Rivera Jimenez. Basilio graduated from Mission High School in 1957, and also graduated from Ft. Knox Officer School and United States Army Armor School. Basilio served in the National Guard for 27 years which included being a Commander of the CoA, 6th Bn 112th Armor and retired from the United States Army in 1997 as a Major. He also worked in the Oil and Gas Industry for 24 years before finally retiring. Basilio enjoyed working with many organizations in Edna and Victoria including the Community Action Committee of Victoria, Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commision Board of Directors, Lavaca- Navidad River Authority Board of Directors, and Texana Ground Water Conservation District. Basilio is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maclovia “Mac” Nava Jimenez; son, James Jimenez of Denver, Co., daughter, Joanne Webb and her husband Joseph of Cypress; grandchildren, Rohr Webb and Olivia Webb; sisters, Dalia Bazaldua, Anita Garza, Margie Martinez, and Linda Arevalo; brothers, Robert Jimenez, and Tony Jimenez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents Basilio is preceded in death by his sisters, Maria Guadalupe Jimenez and Ruth Salazar; brothers, Jose Jimenez, Pedro Jimenez, Juan Jimenez, Daniel Jimenez, and Sam Jimenez. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, from 9 -10:30 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel of Edna. Burial to follow in the Latin American Cemetery in Edna. Pallbearers will be Tony Jimenez, Michael Jimenez, Mario Bazaldua, Leo Garza, Rene Valenciano, and Eric Murray.
