Charles Richard Hilderbrand

     Charles Richard Hilderbrand, 74, passed away September 15, 2024.  He was born July 17, 1950 in Austin, Texas to the late Otis Taylor Hilderbrand and Grace Marie Barr Hilderbrand.

 

     Richard Hilderbrand graduated from Wharton High School in 1968. He received his Degree in Education from Southwest Texas University where he was a member of the football team and Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Richard received his Master’s from Prairie View A&M and superintendent’s certification from the University of Houston. Mr. Hilderbrand dedicated his service of 40 years to the field of education, embracing multiple leadership positions spanning his career. He was not only a role model and mentor to many, he was a teacher, coach, vice principal, principal and superintendent for several local area school districts. Richard was an avid hunter, but his true love and passion was for his family. 

 

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter Margaret Grace Hilderbrand.

 

     Lovingly remembered by his wife Karen Scherer Hilderbrand; son Charles Taylor Hilderbrand; stepchildren Cory Odefey (Cindy) and Sara Brown (Chris); sister Peggy Nelson, niece Kimberly Norman (Sean), nephew Corey Nelson (Amber) and five grandchildren Christopher, Jade and Taylor Odefey; Elizabeth and Preston Brown. 

 

      A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Chris Webber officiating.

 

     The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Matagorda Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Houston Hospice for his care for the short time he was with them. Friends and family may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society. 

 

     “Our hearts still look for you, but our souls know you’re at peace. We will miss you everyday. “
