Chastity Strickand
Chastity Nichole Strickland was born on September 10, 2002 and joined the family of JP and Susan Strickland in October of 2003. The family joyfully adopted Chastity on June 6, 2006 and she lived the rest of her short but full life in Edna, Texas. Chastity went to be with our Heavenly Father on July 15, 2019, but in keeping with her wish to be an organ donor her body remained with us a little longer. Family and friends gathered at Texas Children’s Hospital on July 18th in an overwhelming display of love and support to witness Chastity’s Walk of Honor – the last part of an organ donors’ journey to give new life to others!
Chastity was our Mugwhomp, a term of endearment passed down from Grandpa Coughran. She was our Bonus Child, our Mighty “Chas” that kept us on our toes! We loved watching her grow into a beautiful young lady who enjoyed all animals and had a strange fascination for sloths. Her best friends may well have been her dog, Jojo, and her horse, Cheyenna. Both will miss her sorely.
Chastity was creative, artistic, and had a will of iron! It was important to her to express her love by using her talents to create gifts from her heart. Chastity took pride in playing the alto sax in the Edna High School Marching Band and Jazz Band. She also found a home in the Edna FFA program where their high expectations helped her excel in the Floral Design team and UIL competitions. Both organizations helped her gain confidence in herself and her abilities. While her lifelong will and determination often drove us crazy, it also drove her to succeed.
Chastity is survived by her mother Susan Strickland, father JP Strickland and wife Melissa, brother Zane, sister Maria, stepsisters Taitelin and Taylor Strasner, and grandparents Barbara Coughran and Niell and Shirley Strickland, and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ted Coughran.
Visitation was Monday, July 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home. A private family funeral will be held at Bischoff Cemetery. Please join us for a memorial to celebrate Chastity’s life on Tuesday, July 23, at 7 p.m .in the EHS Auditorium.
