D.J. Jordan
D. J. Jordan passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at 7:34 a.m., at his home in Kerrville, Texas. Born on April 13, 1927, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Myrtle Wilhite Jordan and Dock Jefferson Jordan, D. J. grew up in Fox, Okla., and Edna, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII and returned to Edna when discharged. D. J. worked for Mobil Oil (now Exxon Mobil) for 34 years, ranched in Jackson County during those years, and owned and ran the Morales Store in Morales. A dedicated Christian, D. J. was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church of Kerrville at the time of his passing. Previous years were spent serving in various capacities in his home churches in other cities. In 1976, D. J., married Barbara in Yoakum. Upon his retirement, they built a home in the Texas Hill Country in Utopia. After Barbara’s retirement in 1998, they sold their Utopia home and traveled for 4 years in their motor home. They loved traveling in the western part of the USA, making sure that nearly every summer was spent in Colorado. During their four years of full time traveling, they hosted three summers in Montana for the National Forest Service. D.J.’s dry wit, integrity, kindness, and humility earned him a host of friends and loved ones throughout his life. He loved his family, took an active role as a father, and was his daughter, Julie’s, greatest fan during her many high school activities. He also introduced her to life at the deer lease, the deer hunt, and cooking at the lease. D. J. was a lifetime member of the NRA, an avid fisherman (favoring saltwater), enjoyed fishing for trout while spending many summers in Colorado, and fished twice yearly for bass with his friends. Canadian hunts for elk, moose, and bear were fond memories, and he relished a game of dominoes or shooting a game of pool any day, any time. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jordan, daughter, Julie Freeman (Matt), brother, Jerry Ray Jordan, brother-in-law, David Burleson (Patty), and numerous nieces and nephews. D. J. was preceded in death by his first wife, LaVerne Tipton, parents, Myrtle Jordan and Dock Jordan, and sisters, Corrine Ray and Norma Sue Carroll. Memorial Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Sunrise Baptist Church in Kerrville. Memorial gifts may be offered to Sunrise Baptist Church Missions Offering or Peterson Hospice, Kerrville, Texas.
