Ernest Skarpa

Ernest E. Skarpa, 93, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019. He was born on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1925 in Ganado, to William and Annie Skarpa.     After Ernest graduated  from Ganado High School in 1944, he decided to serve our country and joined the U.S. Army in July of 1944 through August 1946, then went on to serve in the Army Reserves from 1946 through 1949. In September of 1947 Ernest married the love of his life, Bessie.     Ernest is survived by his wife; daughters Linda Kallus and her husband gene, Nancy Joost and her husband Robert; his five grandchildren: Chris Joost, Stacey Joost Stokes, Kimberly Kallus Thomas, Kristin Kallus Shoemaker, and Kelli Kallus Halepeska; his 11 great-grandchildren, Megan, Melissa and Michelle Joost, Kathryn and Hannah Stokes, Aiden and Logan Thomas, Reid and Elly Shoemaker, Reagan and Rylie Halepeska.     He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman and Jerry Skarpa; and sister, Emilee Skarpa Heitman.     Visitation is Friday, Nov. 22 at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ganado with Rev. Ryan Carpenter officiating, followed by interment at Ganado City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Ganado VFW Post 346.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.
