George “Sonny” Edward Tompkins
George “Sonny” Edward Tompkins, at the age of 84, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 18, 2022. George was born on May 7, 1938 in Jackson County to George and Dorothy Tompkins.
On August 5, 1955, George married the love of his life, Wanda Jenkins, George was 17 years old and Wanda was 16, together for sixty-seven years and together they raised their four children. George served his country by joining the Army, he was a tank commander, and was in the National Guard during the Cuban Crisis.
After his time in the military, he worked for Brown and Root for thirty-two years.
George has been survived by his wife Wanda, son and daughter-in-law, Daylon and Pam Tompkins, daughter-in-law, Kim Mudd, siblings, Charles and Jeanene Tompkins and Alfred and Evelyn Tompkins, also his grandchildren, Corey Ferguson and his wife Ashley, Kelly Tompkins, Shawn Tompkins, Haylea Koop and her husband Bryson, Garrett Tompkins, Beth Tompkins, Carissa Tompkins and Jody Tompkins also his great- grandchildren, Caiton Joi Ferguson, Cash Ferguson and Brylea Koop.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Tompkins, brother, James Tompkins, sisters, Betty Thompson, Joan Tompkins and Ann Ellison, and his beloved children, Michael Tompkins, Rhonda Tompkins Schuman and Ronnie Tompkins.
The Pallbearers are; Garrett Tompkins, Blake Eschenburg, Jason Murff, Stephen Jenkins, Steve Thompson and Gary Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of Ganado American Legion and the “Whataburger Boys”
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at First Assembly of God Church beginning with Visitation at 9 am, followed by the funeral service at 10 am with Pastor David Murff officiating. Per the request of the family, there was a private family interment at Memory Gardens of Edna.
