Gloria Jones

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Gloria O. Jones of Edna, who passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the age of 69. She was born in Ganado, Texas on May 21, 1955, to Albert and Delores Espinosa.

Gloria’s bravery in the face of her illness was truly inspirational. She fought with every fiber of her being, never once giving up hope. Her deep roots in the Catholic Church demonstrated her unshakeable faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for 35 years.

With an open heart and an adventurous spirit, she embraced every moment with enthusiasm. She loved her dog Max, loved to play puzzles on her phone, needlepoint, and always brought her toffee and pecan pies to functions. If we called her to go to Sonic, her reply was always, “I’m ready!” Gloria loved all of her nieces and nephews and could be found in the bleachers, auditorium, or gym cheering on Emily and Jaxon for she was their best cheerleader.

Gloria graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She had been a social worker. Later, Gloria earned her teacher certification and was employed by Edna ISD for 33 years. She touched the lives of countless children.

Gloria is survived by her sisters Diana Perez, Melba Lowery and her husband Dean, Stella Nava and her husband Randy, Sonya Proper and her fiancé Lance Crull and her brother Joe Espinosa and his wife Virginia along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She has been preceded in death by her father, Albert G. Espinosa, her mother Delores Espinosa, her brother Albert R. Espinosa, and her brother-in-law Jim Perez.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 23, 2024, at 5 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday August 24, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery.  Services entrusted to the Todish family of Slavik Funeral Home.
