Ima Lea Gaines

     Ima Lea Gaines, 97 of Edna, passed away on July 13, 2024. She was born on July 8, 1927, in Norton, Texas. She grew up in Ballinger, performed as a majorette in the high school band, and graduated from Ballinger High School. 

     After 25 years, Lea retired from Lockheed Martin in Santa Cruz, CA, as an explosive technician. After retirement, she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to be closer to her sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She later moved to Edna, where she spent the last years of her life with her sons and grandchildren. While in Edna, she became a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. 

     Lea enjoyed traveling and collecting Barbies. She loved movies, especially Thelma and Louise.  In her later years, she did not get out much, but loved to have people over to visit. 

     Lea is survived by her sons, Thomas Templin (Joanne), Michael Templin (Georgie), and David Templin (Tammy), grandchildren, Nick Templin, Alex Templin, Shannon Templin, Laura Miller (Jason), Susan Templin, and Jauzlyn Templin, and six great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. 
    She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Scarborough and Lela Rosabell Scarborough, and brothers and sisters, Ivan Scarborough, Thelma Gabbert, Erwin Scarborough, Zelma Gabbert, Samuel Scarborough, Lela Reese, Maurice Scarborough, and Lillian Hendrix. 

     Her memorial service was held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna, Texas.
