Irma Jean Hamilton

     Irma Jean Gerjes Hamilton, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born in Houston, Texas on September 5, 1932, to the late Ed Gerjes and Rosa Belle Kelton Gerjes.

     Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. 

     Jean worked for Edna ISD for over 20 years in the elementary libraries, reading classrooms, high school counselor's office, and the administration building.

     After retirement, Jean and Wendell traveled across the US in their camper passing through nearly all 50 states counting a Hawaiian cruise. They even spent several months on a camping trip in Alaska.

     Jean and Wendell spent hours making crafts. Wendell did the woodwork while Jean did the painting. As crafting and traveling became more and more difficult Wendell and Jean served as Camp Hosts at Brackenridge Park.  

     Jean is survived by her daughter, Jeanie Kubenka (Lionel); sons, Wendell W. Hamilton, Jr., Edward Hamilton (Phyllis); grandchildren, Crystal Hamilton, Aaron Hamilton (Sarah), Amanda Doddoli (Jorge), Kelsea Balizan (Sherman), Heather Edwards (Aldrick); great-grandchildren, Gavin Hamilton, Karlee Brown, Keelan Hamilton, Amaurie Edwards, Haylee Balizan, Hayden Balizan, Courtlyn Hamilton, Craegen Edwards, Aubrey Hamilton, Shyanne Balizan; one sister, Joyce Strelec; loving cat, Ebrie; countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

     She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Rosa Gerjes; her husband, Wendell W. Hamilton, Sr.; brother, Robert Gerjes; granddaughter, Michelle Marleese Hamilton Raybon; great-grandchild, Baby Raybon.

     Pallbearers are Aaron Hamilton, Sherman Balizan, Aldric Edwards, A.J. Juarez, Zachary Wittenbert, Steven Gerjes, and Nick Gerjes.

     Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Gerjes, Ed Goad, James Wilkinson, Gavin Hamilton, Keelan Hamilton, Craegen Edwards, De’Marion Dilworth, and De’JaJuan Dilworth.

     Services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., The funeral service will beg1n at 12 p.m., with Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Brother Robert Krause will officiate.

     The Hamilton family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers of our mother, Jorene Hadley, Anna Longhin, Cindy Hopes, Miyoshi Porter, Patricia (Meka) Hines, Victoria Cruz, and Jacqualine Johnson for the absolute amazing care and compassion that you expressed.
