Janie Martinez

    Janie M. Martinez, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the age of 80. She was born in Yorktown, Texas on Jan. 27, 1937, to the late Enrique Martinez and Maximina Ortiz Martinez.     Janie was a housewife. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.     Janie is survived by her daughters, Irene De Los Santos (Robert) and Laura Lopez (Ray Herrera); sons, Edward Covarrubias (Stephanie), Johnny Martinez, Joe Angel Covarrubias (Donna), Alonzo Covarrubias, and Matthew Covarrubias; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.     In addition to her parents Janie is preceded in death by her sisters, Guadalupe Rodriquez, Susan Garcia, Beatrice Cadengo, and Josephine Quintero; brothers, Benny Martinez and Henry Martinez. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 5 -6:30 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Funeral mass to begin at 10:30 a.m., on Jan. 12 in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, with burial to follow in the Latin American Cemetery of Edna. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating.
