Jim Yarborough
Jim Yarborough, of Vanderbilt, Texas, 84, husband, dad, brother, and most of all he was Paw Paw, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at the Hospice of South Texas, Dornburg Center of Compassion in Victoria. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Ellis) Yarborough of 64 years; six children: daughters, Barbara Greene of Colorado Springs, Co, Stephanie (husband Calvin) Howton of Liberty Hills, Texas, Jimmie (husband Dick) Cowan of Bay City, Cynthia Burrier of Vanderbilt, Carolyn (husband Wesley) of Van Vleck; son, James Yarborough and his wife Mary of Vanderbilt; one brother, Earl Yarborough of Van Vleck; several nieces and nephews, his dog Peanut and cat Lizzie; 15 grandchildren; 27 ½ great-grandchildren (she’s on her way) and many friends and family. Born and raised in Bay City, he is the son of James Leroy Yarborough and Mary Mollie (Fondon) Yarborough. He has lived in Jackson County most of his life. Preceded in death by dad, mom; one sister, Johnnie Sue Fisher; brothers, Roland, Roy, Henry Yarborough; and son in law, Bill Burrier. He left school early to help take care of his family. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and went to Germany and served his country honorably. He retired from Alcoa on Jan. 1, 1993. In his earlier years he loved to mechanic on anything. He loved his cows and donkeys. He enjoyed sitting in his shop playing 42 with his family and friends, but he always kept score. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Hutson officiating. Burial followed at Lolita Cemetery in Lolita. Pallbearers were grandsons Jason Burrier, Jordan Burrier, James Yarborough, Matthew Yarborough, Trenton Kucera, CJ Howton, Larry Yendrey, and Paul Hill. We would like to send a great big thank you to the excellent staff and nurses at Dornburg Center of Compassion of Victoria (Hospice of South Texas).
