Kenneth Jacob Harter
Kenneth Jacob Harter, of Edna, Texas, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska on October 1, 1939, to Leon Harter and Frances George Harter.
Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps the day after graduation. He served as Mayor of Aurora, Nebraska for 12 years, served on the Aurora City Council for 8 years (5 as President). He held many jobs over the course of his lifetime, including law enforcement, Powder River Livestock Equipment sales, district manager for field sales, and insurance sales. At the time of his death, he was the vice president of Mercer Construction in Edna Texas and member of the Police Academy in Victoria, Texas. He loved Nebraska football, PBR, and Bandit.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Traylor Harter; his daughters, Kim Hunt (Alan) and Amy Kucera (Jeremy); his sons, John Harter, Jim Harter (RaLinda), and Chris Harter (Shaunna); and sister, Sharon Nunnenkamp (Bob). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex Harter, Joe Harter (Cera), Sam Harter, Andrew Hunt (Zoe), Alison Rivers (Kyle), Lela Harter, Frankie Harter, Cameron Golter, Jared West, Dylan Kuchera, Jacob Kuchera, and his great-grandchildren, Maddie Harter and Jack Rivers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Frances Harter; sister, Janice Arnold (Deryl); brother-in-law, James Traylor (Sharon); and grandson Zac Golter.
Pallbearers are Sam Harter, Dylan Kucera, Jacob Kucera, David Gregory, Frankie Anderson, and T.J. Jordan.
Honorary Pallbearers are Alex Harter, Andrew Hunt, Joe Harter, and the Mercer Guys.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, Texas. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Pastor Jacob Hunter will be officiating.
