Mary Ann Wittenburg
Mary Ann Tisdale Wittenburg, 92 of Edna, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Ganado, Texas. Mary Ann Tisdale was born on November 19, 1931, in Dallas, Texas to the late Alvin and Gladys Tisdale.
Mary Ann attended Edna schools where she graduated, then went to SMU for one year. The following year she transferred and later graduated from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College, now known as Texas State University in San Marcos. She met her future husband, Hans Wittenburg, on a blind date. They were married on January 28, 1951, and recently celebrated their 73 rd wedding anniversary. Mary Ann had a passion for teaching which led her to a career in education. She taught first grade for 25+ years in the Edna Elementary School system. She is remembered by countless students for her dedication and caring influence in their lives.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Hans. She was a devoted and loving mother to three sons: Fritz, Randy (Joanie), and Joe Mack (Beverly). Grandchildren who will forever cherish many memories of their "Mamie" as she was affectionately known to the family are Lauren Fulrath (Cam), Leah Trombly (Sean), Frances Tomek (Kyle), Jaime Rea (fiancé Phil), KB DeBord (Brooke), Jake Wittenburg (Chelsea), Amanda Compton (Jake), Jacob DeBord (Kristan), Jodi DeBord (fiancé Tyson), Amy Chambless (Jake) and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Gladys Tisdale, son Fritz Wittenburg, and great granddaughter Presley Rose DeBord.
Mary Ann volunteered in the Edna Hospital Auxiliary as a Blue Belle, at the Jackson County Memorial Library where she read to children and at Southbrooke Manor and Rehab Center as a bingo caller. She dedicated a large part of her life to the Edna Presbyterian Church throughout the years as pianist, organist, choir member/director, Sunday School teacher, Women of the Church bible study group, as well as organizing numerous youth activities. She was active in the Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club and the Jackson County Retired School Personnel organization. One of her greatest joys in life was attending any events involving her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She looked forward to taking the grandchildren on their annual summer trips to Port Royal in Port Aransas. Mary Ann also loved going to Beefmaster cattle sales and conventions with Hans.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 all at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Michel D. Yonts officiating. There will be a private family burial following the service.
Pallbearers are Cam Fulrath, Sean Trombly, Kyle Tomek, Jake Wittenburg, Jacob DeBord, and KB DeBord.
