Odie Eugene Alexander
Odie Eugene “Gene” Alexander, of Ganado, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on Nov 22, 1934, to Odie Polk and Pearl Alexander in Lamesa, Texas.
Gene grew up on the Plains of Texas working the family farm. At the age of eight the family moved to Water Valley, Texas where he attended grade school and graduated high school. During his school days he lettered in football, basketball, and track. In high school he met the love of his life, Gloria Shaw. He
attended one year at Texas Tech University. Gene and Gloria were married on Sept 1, 1954. Gene
worked road construction for several years before going to work for Texaco in the oil field in 1971. In
1974 he moved his family to Ganado, Tx where he transferred with his job. Here he held several positions
over the years before retiring in 1994. He was an avid fisherman and loved saltwater and bass fishing. In
retirement he became a knife-maker and obtained his Journeyman Stamp.
Gene and Gloria are members of the First Baptist Church of Ganado where Gene was ordained as a
Deacon in 1978.
Gene and Gloria have four children, Truda Langridge (Billy), Diane Mills (Rick), Garrick Alexander
(Tracie) and Julie Mercer (Donnie); 15 Grandchildren, Scott, Jeanne, Jennifer, Jamie, Charity, Brittany,
Matthew, Jessica, Gregory, Kristin, Nathan, Brandon, Dillon, and Courtney; 30 Great-Grandchildren and
3 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his dad Odie Polk Alexander; mother, Edna Pearl Hann; grandson, Dillon Wade Mercer; and great-grandson, Hunter Estrada.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Mercer, Dalton Service, Nathan Dockery, Gregory Alexander, Cody Mclntosh, Brian Goetz, Matthew Lawson, and Justin Millegen.
Services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Ganado, Tx. Visitation will
be held from 9 a.m.to 10 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Ganado City Cemetery, Ganado, Tx. Pastor David Segura will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gene’s name to First Baptist Church, PO Box
385, Ganado, Texas 77962.
