Rodney Roberson

Rodney Wayne Roberson, age 55, of Edna, Texas, a dedicated retired law enforcement officer and first responder, passed away on October 31, 2024.

He was born in Victoria, Texas in 1969 to Gilford and JoAnn Roberson, and was loved and respected by many dear friends and relatives. Rodney enjoyed the outdoors and graduated from Edna High School in 1988 and was already on active duty as a first responder in Jackson County at the time of his high school graduation.

Rodney became a first responder with the Edna Volunteer Fire Department while in high school, devoting himself to aiding others. He continued service for all of his adult life in Jackson County EMS and Fire Department, as a patrol officer for the Edna Police Department, as a patrol officer for the Ganado Police Department, as the Ganado Police Chief, and was also recognized by the Edna Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year. He served as president of the Edna Chamber of Commerce and also served on the Jackson County Hospital Board for 32 years, as well as the Red Cross Board. He enjoyed being an active officer in the Jackson County Republican Party and was a Past President of the Jackson County Law Enforcement Association. Though his life of service protected countless lives, he never sought or expected thanks for his work. Knowing he had helped others and served the people of Jackson County was thanks enough.

That selflessness extended to his personal life. Rodney was kind, caring, and generous, traits reflected both at home and when out in the field working as a law enforcement officer and first responder.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Gilford Roberson, and is survived by his mother JoAnn Roberson, his sister Shari (Roberson) Belmarez and her husband Brett, and his two nieces Addison and Emmerson, and one nephew Roberson Belmarez. Additional survivors include Gracie Moore, Gary (Alice) Nordin, David Nordin, Karla (Frankie) Alderete, and many cousins in and around Jackson County.

Honorary pallbearers include: Retired Texas Game Warden, Kevin Stancik and wife Renee Stancik, Jackson County Sheriff’s Dispatcher/Administrative Assistant; Jackson County Deputy Sheriff, Dwayne Taylor; Jackson County Sheriff, Kelly Janica; Jackson County Hospital District EMS/Paramedic Supervisor, Russell Johnson; Former Jackson County Constable, Oscar Hinojosa; Edna Chief of Police, Rick Boone; Darrell Slatter; and all current and former Brothers and Sisters in law enforcement as well as first responders.

There will be a visitation beginning at 1 p.m., on Thursday, November 14, 2024, followed by a memorial / funeral service at 2 p.m., at Slavik Funeral Home at 209 North Allen, Edna, Texas. A reception will be held at Baptist Temple FMC of Edna, (1001 N Wells St. Edna, Texas) following the memorial / funeral service immediately following the private burial service at the family cemetery.
