Thelma Lee Mercer
Thelma Lea Mercer, 96, was born on October 27, 1922 in Jackson County to the late Terry Adam Shows and Adell Gates Shows. She went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2019. Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly. Thelma is survived by her sons, W. H. Mercer, Jr., (Yvonne), Sherrel Mercer (Cecelia), and John Mercer (Anne), all of Edna; Marvin Mercer (Glenda) of Leander; and Pat Mercer (Jacque) of Inez. She is survived by grandchildren Michael Mercer (Brooke), Nicole Mercer, Betsy Thompson (Jason), Laura Paulsel (Jason), Dale Mercer (Leea), Joanna Smith (Matt), Kimberly Mercer, Caren Akins (Matthew), Scott Mercer, LynAnne Walden (Bill), Sarah Bradley (Cody), and Patrick Mercer (Amber). She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband W.H. Mercer, Sr., by two sisters Bernice Terry and Erma Garrett, two brothers A. T. Shows and J. C. Shows, and two grandchildren, Richard Mercer and Rosalyn Kresta. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to honor her to make memorial gifts to the W. H. and Thelma Mercer Memorial Scholarship Foundation, P. O. Box 888, Edna, Texas 77957, or to Hospice of South Texas, 605 East Locust, Victoria, Texas 77901. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 2, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Mr. Phillip Stuckey and Mr. Dale Mercer officiated.
