Malakoff won state last year and seems to be headed back there again. They have the second-highest scoring offense in 3A-D1 and the third best defense.

Liberty-Eylau lost 58-20 to Carthage and 35-34 to Jefferson. Jefferson lost to Malakoff by 10 last week. Carthage is still playing in 4A-DII. Liberty-Eylau entered the season ranked 21.

Region 1II

Columbus (12-1) and Franklin (10-2)

Maxpreps rank: Columbus 2, Franklin 5

Points for: Columbus 679, Franklin 596
Points against: Columbus 315, Franklin 317

Columbus and Franklin entered the season ranked second and third respectively and not much has changed. Columbus has had no success winning the region despite being ranked in the top five for three consecutive season. Last year, and three years ago, they were knocked out by Lorena.
The year in between, they lost by three point to eventual state champs Franklin. Columbus will try again to move on to the State Semi-Final.

Franklin has been to the State game for three consecutive years, winning the first two and losing last year to Malakoff.

Franklin’s two losses came in week three and four.  They lost to Celina 59-21 and to Legacy School of Sports Science  48-41. Celina is still in the playoffs as the number one ranked team in 4A-DI. LSSS is a private school.

The winner of this game will face the winner of Edna and Llano

3A-D1

Region IV

Edna (13-0) and Llano (12-1)

Maxpreps rank: Edna 6, Llano 15

Points for: Edna 608, Llano 441
Points against: Edna 140, Llano 199

Friday at 7 p.m. at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio

These two teams took decidedly different routes to get here. Edna is the two time-defending Region IV champ who began the season in the top 5 and remains in that same area.

Llano was not in the preseason top 25 and picked to finish second in their district. Instead, they won district and finds themselves in the fourth round of the playoffs.

Edna is chomping for another shot at moving on to the State Championship game and Llano is the next team standing in their way.

Edna and Llano have three common opponents, Orange Grove, Goliad, and Randolph. Edna defeated OG 28-0 and Llano won 34-6. Edna defeated Randolph 42-17 and Llano won 27-26. Edna defeated Goliad 49-21 and Llano won 30-29 last week.

The Cowboys have more than enough firepower to take down Llano and move on to round five.
