Ganado wins big over Palacios

     When a team wins a game by fifty, it means they dominated the other team. When a team leads by fifty at halftime, it means they were firing on all aspects of the game. The Ganado Indians jumped out to a 54-0 halftime lead over the Palacios Sharks before finishing the game 61-0.

     "We were excited about the way we came out, started fast, and jumped up on them in the first quarter,” Indians.  “We executed in all three phases, but special teams made the biggest impact in the first quarter with the punt return touchdown, the onside kick recovery, and then the blocked punt that we recovered for a touchdown.  Huge credit to our special teams coordinator, Coach Thedford, and all of the kids for buying into the new schemes.  A huge reason that we are 2-0 right now is the way that the kids are playing and executing on special teams and that's what it takes to be a successful team.”

     When a team builds such a huge lead, it can be difficult to make sure the teams is still playing hard, while at the same time, trying not to run up the score.

     "(When we have a big lead), our expectation is that we continue to play as hard as we can and not let up, while we may work on some things that we need to.

     The Indians had players putting up big stats in all aspects, and Ervin credits Ganado playing as a team.

     “It was a great team win with many of the kids making big plays,” he explained. “Three different kids had rushing touchdowns and four different kids had receiving touchdowns.  Bryce Ullman and Logan Bures had really good games in all three phases of the game.  Bryce did a great job at quarterback executing the offense, spreading the ball around, and throwing accurately. He also had the big punt block in the first quarter.  Logan had a great night on offense both receiving and rushing, had a big punt return that set us up with a short field, and played well defensively.  We were also excited with how the offensive line played as they continue to get better as a group.

     Now at 2-0, the Indians have a tough task coming up. Ganado was finally able to defeat the East Bernard Brahmas last year, after years of not being able to get over the hump.

     "East Bernard is always a tough team to play, and we're excited about the challenge this week,” Ervin continued. “Our plan is to just keep focusing on us by working hard, getting better every day, and improving on how we execute our assignments.”
