With the Jackson County district softball and baseball schedule nearing their ends, tonights games will be some of the most important of the year.
Edna baseball and softball will host Industrial.
For the softball teams, Edna and Industrial will basically be playing a playoff game tonight. With three games remaining, Hallettsville and Columbus have already locked up the first two playoff spots, and Yoakum sits in third.
The Cowgirls are in fourth place at 6-5, while the Cobras are one game out of the playoffs at 5-6. With Edna winning the first match-up, a Cowgirl win tonight would eliminate Industrial from playoff contention and give Edna a playoff spot.
An Industrial win would put them in a tie for the final playoff spot.
The Cowgirls will finish the regular season next week playing at Columbus and then hosting Palacios. Industrial will host both Rice and Hallettsville.
With only two district games remaining, the Ganado Maidens have locked up a playoff spot. Tonight they will play at Shiner. The winner of this game will enter the playoffs as the number two seed while the loser will enter as the three seed.
Ganado will finish their regular season next Tuesday at Bloomington.
The Cowboys and Cobras are also sitting tied for a playoff spot, but they are tied for third, and have four games remaining in their schedule.
Tidehaven is a game behind both teams, sitting one game out of the playoffs.
Because either Edna or Industrial will lose tonight, Hallettsville will lock up one of the four playoff spots. Columbus sits in second, two games ahead of Edna and Industrial.
After the game tonight Industrial will host Rice and Hallettsville and finish the regular season at Tidehaven. Edna will play at Columbus and then host Palacios and Yoakum.
The Indians will face number one ranked Shiner tonight, then play at Bloomington, host Schulenburg, and finish the regular season at Louise.
Ganado currently sits in third in the district, a game ahead of both Weimar and Schulenburg. Ganado defeated Schulenburg the first time through district play.
