Rivalry games

Last season the Industrial Cobras girls basketball team went undefeated in district play and made a run to the state tournament. On the boys side, the Edna Cowboys had one district loss and ended up winning the district crown.
On Friday night in Edna, the lady Cobras kept their district winning streak going by holding off a hard-charging Cowgirls teams and then the Industrial boys made a statement by handing the Cowboys their first district loss of the year.
In the girls game, the Cobras took an early lead and never trailed, but every time Edna would start to fall way behind, they would charge back. The Cowgirls were able to pull within five with just over four minutes left in the game but Industrial was able to ice the game and walk away with a 51-42 victory.
“I thought we played really well,” Cobra girls head basketball coach Michelle Wagner said. “The girls came out to play. We have played really well the first half and then come out kinda dead in the third quarter. That is where it usually gets us, the team just kind of falls apart. But they came out firing and I told them they can’t let up and that is exactly what they did."
