Ted Malek Cobra Classic Tournament

The Ganado Maidens have gotten off to a hot start this year, sitting at 7-1 after going 5-0 to win the Ted Malek Cobra Classic Tournament.

The Cobras finished 4-1 in the tournament, with their only loss by one run to the Maidens.

Which Cobras had a great tournament?

“Madisyn Bracknell went 1000 at the plate, and several Girls batting over .400 is always a plus-Sarak Kolodziejczyk, Kyleigh Matula, Ky Kusak, Natalie Koehl,  Faith Villarreal,” Head Coach Chasity Matula said.

“The girls are putting the ball in play we just need to figure out a way to put the hits together. With a young outfield when Kusak is on the mound, they just need more reps and situation to feel confident on where they need to throw, trust their arm. We’ve got to work on talking and our coverages.”

The Cowgirls finished at 3-2, picking up two ten run rule victories and one of their losses being in an overtime game. With the tournament being timed, there was no extra inning, but the Cowgirls and Goliad finished five innings, tied at 1. For the tiebreaker, each team began the overtime with a runner at second and one out. Goliad was able to score the runner but Edna couldn’t answer. Their other tournament loss was also by one run.

“There is always something to work on skill wise,” Edna Head Softball Coach Kayla Wilson said about the tournament. “Mentally these athletes are in tune with each other and all on the same page with goals for the season.”
